OSD Exclusive: “The Lyoness” Vicky Lyons Interview
April 29th, 2010 | Comments (4)

The OhSoDivalicious family had the honour of sending in some questions to the independent wrestling Diva, “The Lyoness” Vicky Lyons! Vicky discussed what made her want to get into wrestling, her dream match, her favourite member of TNA’s Beautiful People and much more! We would like to express our deepest and upmost gratitude to her. Vicky is totally down to earth and speaks her mind. It really was exciting and such a pleasure to be in contact with her. Now let’s get to the interview!

To the fans who might not be too familiar with you, sum yourself up in ten words.
Vicky: I am a carefree, out going, out spoken stubborn Texas girl that has no problem telling you exactly what’s on my mind!

You stated on your Myspace page that when you were only 4 years old, you were involved in a hit and run incident. You said the doctor’s told your parents that you would never walk or talk again. What were the thoughts running through your head when you proved them wrong and began your wrestling training?
Vicky: Honestly, when I proved everyone wrong, I wanted to rub it in everyone’s face! But, that’s not the kind of person I am! I sure felt like it though.

What was it about wrestling that made you want to get into the business?
Vicky: I love the physical aspect of wrestling. When I was a kid, my parent’s always tried to shelter me because of my accident, but I always found some way to give them a heart attack! (I was always jumping off my bunk bed and climbing on cabinets.)

How did you get into the wrestling business?

Vicky: I wish I could have started wrestling earlier then I did, but I waited until I was done with doctors and surgeries. I always talked about wanting to get into wrestling, just like the doctor’s, no one believe I could do it. Well, that just made want to prove them wrong about one more thing! It’s like Dr. Stevie says, I’ll show you, you’ll see! I love Dr. Stevie! Everyone told me told me that because of my disabilities the wrestling industry would not take me seriously. I was starting to believe everyone, and didn’t bother trying to do anything about it! Until one day, I was sitting in my house in Plano, Texas watching WWE and I saw the most impressive debut of the wrestler that inspired me to go for my dream, and that wrestler was Zack Gowen. After I heard his story, I thought if he can do it, I could do it.  I then started searching for schools in Texas. Sure enough, I found a school that literally was five minutes from where I lived. (I took this as a sign!) That school closed about four years ago. That is when I started a search again. Every time, I did an Internet Search, this place called HIGHSPOTS kept coming up. I researched it and packed up and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. (Most people thought I was crazy, but that’s me!)

Carry on after the cut to continue reading our interview with the wonderful Vicky Lyons!

How long did you train for, and which company was it you that you trained with?
Vicky: Gee, I’m not very good at keeping track of time! The reason I know how long I have been at Highspots is because I thought it was cool that I signed up for training on 6-6-06! I think I had been training 2 maybe 2-½ yrs. before my debut.

Tell us more about your experiences with training to wrestle – like what the experience was like, how you came up with a finisher and such.
Vicky: I love training at Highspots! It is such a wonderful opportunity and an honor to be taught by such an established and experienced wrestler like, the one and only George South! Mr. South definitely has a lot to teach to those who want to learn and benefit from his teachings! I also have the opportunity to benefit from the teachings of Jake Manning ‘The Man Scout’. With two such experienced wrestlers as trainers, there is no reason you would not succeed. Like my Daddy always said, if you don’t succeed, you have no one to blame but yourself! Those really are words to live by! I really do not have a finisher yet!

In your debut match in October 2008, you faced ring veteran and current TNA Knockout Daffney. What was it like to have your DEBUT match with her and what was it like to hang out with her backstage before the big match?
Vicky: At first, I could not believe I was going to have my debut match with Daffney, I loved her in WCW. Wait, what am I saying, I still can’t believe I had a match with Daffney. I like to watch old WCW footage on YouTube, when I look up all Daffney matches and scroll through the page, I’ll see Vicky Lyons vs Daffney, I’m like what is my name doing there? I love Daffney she’s a cool, down to earth person! I love Daffney! I got to admit no opponent I face could ever hold a candle to Daffney! I hanging with ya sista!

What is your entrance music and why did you choose to have that particular song?
Vicky: I like the singer Pink, so I choose So What by Pink! Now I think about it that pretty much fits attitude about certain things!

Also, how did you come up with your ring name and your gimmick?
Vicky: My last name is Lyons, I asked Daffney should I think of a ring name, and said she thought my real name Lyons is the perfect gimmick because after all I have been through, I truly have the heart of a lion. So it ties in with my last name. Daffney came up with that part. I saw on a nature show about lions that a female lion is called a lioness, so I came up with the Lyoness of the ring! (I ran it by Daffney and she loved it.)

Which female wrestler in wrestling past and present stands out the most to you and why?
Vicky: A blast from the past that caught my attention was The Fabulous Moolah, she just seemed like should could be a real hellcat if you crossed her! I just always liked her! Most recently, I would really keep an eye on Beth Phoenix; I don’t think I need to explain that one!

Allison wants to know who has been your favorite opponent?
Vicky: That’s a no brainer, Daffney!

Gina Lane would like to know what your favorite move is and also your favorite thing to wear in the ring?
Vicky: One of my favorite moves to do is Russian Leg Sweep! I don’t have any specific ring attire; I just make sure I’m covered up so I don’t have a wardrobe malfunction! LOL!

We know you’re a big fan of WWE and TNA but what division stands out the most to you and why?
Vicky: Right now, I really follow and like the TNA Knockout division. TNA just seems like they give their female talent more opportunities. That just my opinion!

This question is from BeautyFan83. Which is your favorite Beautiful People member, past or present?
Vicky: I always liked Angelina Love, She a great female wrestler, she looks great and she very nice.

Out of all the Divas on the current WWE roster at the moment, who would you most like to face and why?
Vicky: I don’t know why because she could probably break me in half, lol, but it would have to be Beth Phoenix! I love her and she just seems like someone that has a lot of knowledge of the business. The same goes for Jillian Hall! I would love to face Mickie James, but she just got released! :(

The same question as above, but about the TNA Knockouts.
Vicky: Angelina Love need I say more, she’s great! I would always be up to wrestling Daffney because once was not enough!

On Thursday 22nd of April, Katie Lea and Mickie James of their WWE contracts. This came as a complete shock to wrestling fans. What were your thoughts when you heard?
Vicky: I still am in shock!

Roy asked what person that you have worked with, has inspired you the most?
Vicky: I would to say Daffney again because she is Awesome!

As a big fan of wrestling yourself, what would be your dream match that you’d love to sit back and watch?
Vicky: I am a big Von Erich fan and a big John Morrison fan, so if could dream up any match it would; Kerry Von Erich vs John Morrison! Now I think that would be a great match!

You say you have two pets – what pets do you own and what’s their names?
Vicky: I have a Siamese cat named Maya. She was named after a singer/actress Mya. I just spelled it different. Maya gets along great with my little Matipoo Puppy London. London was name after Paul London.

If we were to look into your music library, what music would we find in the most played section?
Vicky: Morcheeba, Portishead, Shakira and Evanescence!

Asish wants to know what your favorite piece of technology is? Is it your laptop, computer, iPod, games console?
Vicky: I love web surfing and I can’t put down my Nintendo DS.

Katherine wants us to ask you, what is your favorite color?
Vicky: I like bright colors and red.

Where can see Vicky Lyons in action?
Vicky: Not much action right now. When I am in action it’s usually somewhere in North Carolina.

What are your goals and ambitions for the future?
Vicky: My only goal is do my best in life and treasure each and everyday! Whatever the future holds I will deal with it went it comes, I really don’t think about tomorrow, I focus on today! Deal with tomorrow when it comes! (As my daddy always said!)

Thank you once again for agreeing to do this interview, is there anything you want to say to your fans or plug?
Vicky: It really means a lot me to have people supporting me; it does not matter to me if it’s one or one million! I really do appreciate each and every person that supports me. I am so thankful to Michael for letting me join Highspots. In my opinion, there’s no place better then Highspots! Very grateful that George South and Jake Manning took the time to train me! I am thankful to OhSoDivalicious for giving me this opportunity!
