Remember when Mickie James got a little L-I-licky-C-K-licky-Y with her hand gestures during her match with Trish Stratus at WrestleMania 22? Personally, I thought it was brilliant! It elevated the storyline between the two Divas in 2006 but it turns out a very important person wasn’t happy with the gesture… Vince McMahon! Oh dear! In an interview with Wrestlecast, which was published on the Sun’s website, Mickie reveals that she got yelled at for that spur of the moment gesture.
You can view the full article here, where she also reveals that she wrote the storyline involving Trish Stratus, but intending it for Lita, six months prior to her being called up from OVW to make her WWE Raw debut.
The storyline peaked at Wrestlemania where Mickie won her first major title, but contained a controversial moment.
Mickie, whose character had developed crazed lust-like feelings for her opponent and rival, touched Trish’s crotch and provocatively made a gesture towards the camera insinuating lesbian intimacy.
WWE boss McMahon was unhappy and ordered the gesture be edited out of future DVD releases.
Speaking on SunSport’s award winning Wrestlecast podcast, Mickie recalls: “The only people that remember that are the people watching or who were there live and in person. It didn’t make the DVD.
“I came back through the curtain and Vince was really mad. In the moment it had seemed amazing to me. I thought ‘Vince will love this’.
“‘Crass’ was the word I got. He didn’t like it at all. He told me ‘We’re going to have to go back and edit that out. Do you know how much time (this will take)?’
“This was my first Wrestlemania, my mum was in the audience, I’m freaking out already. I’m back through the curtain and I’m already in tears and an emotional mess. And I got yelled at.”
