Did you know that one of female wrestling’s most iconic moments – Molly Holly getting her hair shaved off in a Hair Vs. Title match at WrestleMania XX – was actually devised by the lady herself to ensure that there would be a Women’s Championship match that year? No? Neither did we!
Recently speaking to In Your Head Wrestling Radio, Molly Holly talked about the match and how she is pleased to be part of something memorable:
“Well, I’m guessing that people listening to this wouldn’t be too hurt if I tell like the real, behind the scenes truth, but the real truth is that it was my idea. I was told by the writing team that they were not going to have a Women’s Championship match at Wrestlemania, and I was really hurt by that…so I just came up with an idea that I thought they couldn’t say no to, and so I pitched it. They said, OK, you can be on Wrestlemania if you get your head shaved. And I was like, “Yes!” So yeah, I was excited about it, it was my idea, they actually did it, and even though there wasn’t much of a storyline and people didn’t really love or hate me that much as a character at that time, I still was really happy to be able to do something memorable.”
Wrestlemania is considered the Superbowl of the WWE….. and the Hall Of Fame ceremony is considered their Oscars! And much like the Oscars, we are all looking forward to what our Divas will be wearing to the show. From elegant ball gowns to little black dresses to what can only be described as something that resembles a really bad prom dress, we’ve seen it all over the years! The annual Wrestlemania Weekend tradition continues tonight, as our Divas will descend upon Madison Square Garden dressed up to the nines for the prestigious event. Join us as we take a trip down memory lane and view the Divas’ Hall Of Fame fashion from the past.
All eyes are on Hollywood tonight as Tinseltown’s elite hit the red carpet for the 85th Annual Academy Awards. And in typical fashion, WWE.com has decided to capitalize on this occasion with a very special Diva Focus of the WWE Divas in their red carpet best…. by recycling old Hall Of Fame and New Year’s Diva shoots! We already have these shoots in the gallery, but a friendly reminder that they do exist doesn’t hurt now does it? Click ‘Read More’ to view the rather extensive list of Divas glammed up!
In similar fashion to People Magazine’s ‘Beautiful People’ list, WWE.com has compiled their own list of people who they feel are the 50 most beautiful people in Sports Entertainment. Twenty Divas, both past and present, were ranked on the list…. and also claimed the #1 spot! While most people would have their money on the likes of Trish Stratus or Lita in that position, it was none other than the late Miss Elizabeth who snagged the spot, as well as our hearts. You can view the entire list here. In the meantime, here are the rankings for the Divas!
#45: Molly Holly
#43: the Kat
#41: Mickie James
#39: the Bella Twins
#36: Kimberly Page
#30: Kelly Kelly
#22: Candice Michelle
#10: Torrie Wilson
#6: Stacy Keibler
#4: Eve Torres
#3: Trish Stratus
#1: Miss Elizabeth
Tonight marks RAW’s 1000th episode, and with that comes at least 1000 Divalicious moments that we’ve loved over the years. After thinking long and hard and going through the list lots of times, we’ve managed to come up with and shorten it down to just fifteen Divalicious moments that we really love and in no particular order, here they are..
GET THE TABLES! YES!
Just recently, the Diva who has been getting all the attention is former NXT contestant, AJ Lee. The self proclaimed ‘Geek Goddess’ won the hearts of two (well three if you include Kane?) men in CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. After they refused to give her the attention she so desired, she told WWE Diva Eve Torres she’d show the world how to get attention. She did just that by shoving the two men of her dreams through a table.
DISS THE DIVA
In 2004 when the first Diva Search was underway, the final four Divas were picked – Carmella, Christy, Amy and Joy. All throughout the contest (for some unknown reason) all of the contestants hated Carmella with a passion. They had a challenge called Diss The Diva, where they had thirty seconds to diss the Divas in the ring. It turned out to be more like Diss Carmella! Every single girl ripped her to shreads in this segment.
We are two (or technically three if you’re from the UK like me) days away from WWE’s blockbuster event, WrestleMania, where we will see the above Divas tag team match. Extra’s Maria will team with former champ Kelly Kelly to take on the devious duo of Eve Torres and Beth Phoenix. But before all that, we’re going to go on a trip down memory lane and have some fun before WrestleMania with some random matches from the WWE Divas past and present. Grab your popcorn (and possibly your sick bucket) and press play on the Videos of the Day!
In the new Bloodstained Memoirs DVD, TNA Knockout Christy Hemme talks about her time as a wrestler and brings up iconic WWE Diva Trish Stratus.
The above video is a short extract of Christy’s part in the DVD, entitled “Model in Paris”. She bluntly states that she was never a proper wrestler, but admits she tried. She recalls looking back on herself and thinking “Aww, look. It’s so cute, she’s trying!”
The DVD also features former WWE Diva Molly Holly, who introduces it, and can be purchased here.
It is customary for every team to have it’s powerhouse wrestler. Or in my case, two of them. And Beth Phoenix and Natalya fill up the role perfectly. Molly Holly; one of the best technical wrestlers in North America, most underrated Divas and my personal all-time favorite. Eve Torres is the token brains of the team! Eve has proven over the years that she’s not just another pretty face…. she can also kick (and shake!) a little ass! Unarguably THE best women’s professional wrestler in the world rounds up the roster, Sara Del Rey.
